1931 Selmer Tenor Sax
1931 Selmer Tenor Sax
Here is a beautifully refinished and professionally overhaul Selmer tenor from 1931.
This horn was stripped from worn silver and then matte lacquered with the exception of the engraving area done with a beautiful gold lacquer. The horn is overhauled and just gone over by Maestro Woodwinds of Brookline Ma. You can see the great condition of the instrument throughout.
The sound is rich and big, the closest Selmer ever came to a Conn type bigness particularly in the low end. Not as big as a Conn but plenty big, lush, smooth and warm. The keywork is great for a vintage player, probably less so for a post Brecker type player.
The case is a near new Hiscok plus a Kiwi neck bag.
According to Selmer historian Douglas Pipher “Selmer 14777 is a Canadian-market Pre-Super Tenor which shipped from Selmer Paris in Aug 1931. It was originally silver-plated with a gold wash in the bell. This instrument (like all Canadian-market instruments at the time) was sold through Selmer US (hence the US stamp on the bell) but it was shipped directly from France to Toronto.”
