Beaugnier Vito Low A Baritone Sax-Made for Bebop Legend Cecil Payne 1970s
Here is a Beaugnier Vito low A baritone sax, custom made in France for Bebop baritone legend Cecil Payne. His name is engraved in script on the bell lip.He got this horn new at the Beaugnier factory in France. One unique thing about it is the absence of a side F#. Cecil didn't use or like them, they blew open on him too often. So Beaugnier put a plate over the tone hole and never mounted the keywork for it at all
Cecil played this horn throughout the 70s. You can see the one album cover Bird Gets The Worm that he recorded with it. He did have a pickup mount added on the neck and that is clearly visible on the album cover.Cecil had a friend, Rudy, a New Yorker who retired to Maine and put on occasional concerts up there including a few with Cecil. When Cecil got his Yanagisawa in the 80's this horn went to Rudy and from him to our mutual friend up there who I'm selling it for.It is setup and playing , like every saxophone on earth you can expect it will benefit from additional setup work on arrival. My friend in Maine put it in my hands with hopes of it finding the right home so offers are welcome. Maybe it should go to a museum or university? Or just a passionate player? I don't know but want to gauge the interest.
